Fall is one of my favorite times of year. The colors, the beautiful sunshine during the day with cooler nights and the back-to-school energy. For me, it is such an exciting feeling seeing the yellow school buses back on the road, kids on the playground and the parking lots full of staff thrilled to be back. This year, more than ever. I had the good fortune to get to be at schools for the first couple of days. I got to guide elementary school students as they got off the buses and out of their cars. They were so proud of their new backpacks, shoes and masks. One kindergartener shared that he knew all the rules of kindergarten. And, who couldn’t love middle schoolers? I was there for the first day for the 7th and 8th graders and second for 6th graders. For those of you who have been down this road, you will not be surprised by how many 6th graders lost their schedule, left it at home or on the bus in the 24 hours since they received them. You could see the sparkle in their eyes full of joy about being back at school. Our high schoolers are loving the later start time. My oldest would have been halfway through her first period class before our students are even heading to the bus stop. Just another way that we are back but better.

The comeback is always stronger than the setback.
